The water of the Danube was sampled at six points in Austria during periods of highest and lowest water levels. Suspended substances were analyzed for more than 40 elements with the aid of chemical, atomabsorptiometrical and spectrochemical methods. The results are compiled in tables. Compared with other European streams the Danube River is scarcely polluted in respect of inorganics. Correlations between the water level and the chemical constitution of dissolved and mechanically transported substances were found.
