The author refers to the development of regulation of the Danube, its power plants, and its importance as a European water-way. The following technical problems are discussed: regulation, embankments, handling of sediment, transport of suspend matter, sedimentation in dammed areas, icefloes, flooding, and sewage disposal. The zones of still water formed by the regulations are refilled with the dredged material (300000-400000 m3/year) and cannot be used as biotop water-organisms. The increased motorboat traffic makes strong embankments of stones necessary.
