[Organization and problems of water management in Austria]
published: Mar 1, 1973
The author reviews the present situation of water management in Austria. He refers to the highly favourable water balance. The territory of Austria includes 100000 km of rivers, 222 km2 of lakes and abundant ground water. The main problems arise from water pollution, high floods and avalanches. These dangers have to be minimized by co-ordination between regional planning and water management. Water management agreements with the neighbouring states regulate the situation concerning interstate river courses.
