The Holocene diatom flora of Lake Saint Anna (Eastern Carpathians, Europe)
Buczkó, Krisztina; Magyari, Enikő
Diatom analysis was carried out on a four-meter long sediment core from Lake Saint Anna at 950 m a.s.l. in the Hargitha Mountains of the Eastern Carpathians. Altogether 74 taxa were distinguished in the oligo-dystrophic lake during its estimated 10.000 years history. The diatom flora proved to be unique with several rare species and 30 of them are new for the diatom flora of Romania. This paper presents the floristic part of the study with taxon list and detailed photo documentation providing taxonomically consistent data from a yet poorly investigated area of Europe.
