Floristic and ultrastructural study of the genus Strombomonas (Euglenophyta) from New Jersey fresh waters

Abstract

Twenty-six taxa of the genus Strombomonas Deflandre (Euglenophyta) were determined from samples collected from several freshwater bodies located in the Piedmont region of central New Jersey, USA. In addition, twelve taxa were examined in detail by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). On the basis of these observations one new species is proposed: S. americana. Details of envelope ultrastructure are illustrated.
