Abstract

This paper describes a new Eucocconeis species, E. lichunhaii, from high mountain lakes in the Yunnan Plateau. The new species was studied with light and scanning electron microscopy. Its main features are: elliptical to lanceolate valves with rounded poles and a relatively deep mantle, radiate striae, concave raphe valve with sigmoid raphe, lanceolate axial area and transversely rectangular central area; rapheless valve with linear axial area and larger, elliptical central area. E. lichunhaii was common in the examined samples of lake sediments.
