Abstract

Sellaphora nana (Hust.) Lange-Bert. Cavacini, Tagliaventi & Alfinito, Stauroneis borrichii (J.B. Petersen) J.W.G. Lund, S. parathermicola Lange-Bert. and S. thermicola (J.B. Petersen) J.W.G. Lund are rare diatoms, which are characteristic of aerophytic biotopes and damp soils. They are found, in both running and still waters, only in the form of isolated specimens (with the exception of Stauroneis parathermicola, which is recorded on the territory of Poland for the first time). Conducted research on cultivated soils indicates that Sellaphora nana, Stauroneis borrichii and S. thermicola are soil diatoms, developing numerously in the communities. They often reach larger dimensions compared to those, which develop in aquatic environments.
