New locality of Diadesmis tabellariaeformis (Krasske) Lange-Bertalot et Wojtal (Bacillariophyceae) in Europe

Wojtal, Agata

Rare species belonging to the small diatom genus Diadesmis Kützing 1844 was recorded during the study of diatom communities of a small calcareous stream on Kraków-Czestochowa Upland in Poland. Among numerous common and widely distributed species, that have been found out during the nine-years study many new to the diatom flora of Poland were observed. Diadesmis tabellariaeformis is one of the most interesting diatom species in material studied because it was known so far only from few localities world-wide. It is confined to subaerial habitats, where it occurs in small population. The morphological characteristics are presented using light and scanning electron microscopy. For SEM microphotographs are published for the first time.
