It is difficult to be wildly enthusiastic about publishing conference proceedings as a book, when looking through our specialist scientist glasses. Very often, given the wide and diverse array of papers, we find only a few papers of direct interest to our own work. We have to use different glasses, however, when judging such proceedings. They should provide a good overview of the whole field, with a few introductory reviews, followed by a large bouquet of state-of-the-art scientific contributions. In this respect, proceedings can play a very useful role as a quick general introduction to the field for students and non-specialists, and as a handy update of what is going on for others. These conference proceedings manage to do exactly that. The book starts with four review papers, followed by some 25 papers on a wide variety of subjects.
