Abstract

Quantitative sampling of a sandy stream sediment by tube coring proved to be impossible: The interstitial and supernatant water leaked as soon as the tube was opened. The determination of phosphorus compounds and microbiological parameters in the interstitial water was not feasible. An improvement of the standard method is described. Sealing sandy sediment cores by using potter's clay, prevented leaking out of interstitial waters and maintained the vertical structure in the sandy column.
