Abstract

The different successional stages of the hydrosphere in the "Hülben" (small pools) of the Ostalb were traced. The "Hülben" existing today represent all the stages recognizable from the ageing process of larger waters - from an oligotrophic condition through a eutrophication to a final dystrophication. This last stage appears as a specific raised bog development which is favoured by high precipitation and a cool climate.
