Abstract

Abstract The values of the compatibility index, 1-(KP/KC), have been calculated for 185 new mineral proposals processed for voting by the members of the Commission on New Minerals and Mineral Names of the International Mineralogical Association in the five-year period from 1983 through 1987. On the scale suggested by Mandarino (1979, 1981a), the data are distributed as follows : superior (0.000-0.019) 45.4 %, excellent (0.020-0.039) 26.0 %, good (0.040-0.059) 15.1 %, fair (0.060-0.079) 5.4 %, poor (> 0.079) 8.1 %. Analysis of the data indicates that new Gladstone-Dale constants should be determined for Bi2O3, TeO2 and TeO3.
