Abstract

Abstract The second and third world occurrences of the rare mineral kolymite - the copper amalgam - are reported in this note. Spectrochemical analyses of two samples, one from Mexico and the other from the Gould-Curry Mine, Nevada (U.S.A.), give, respectively: Cu = 27.19, Hg = 72.79, Ag = 0.80 and Cu = 26.76, Hg = 70.21, Ag = 2.19 wt.%. X-ray diffraction data yield an a parameter of 9.414 ± 0.002 Å, comparable with that of the holotype kolymite from Magadin, U.S.S.R
