Abstract

Abstract We have conducted a new study on the stability of the ß-iron phase at high pressure.and temperature. With the X-ray study of the electrically heated iron wire at pressures between 35 and 68 GPa, we are able to demonstrate the reversibility of transforming iron between hexagonal close-packed (HCP) and face-centered cubic (FCC) or double hexagonal close-packed (DHCP) structures. In combination with the available data, the new results indicate a negative pressure and temperature slope of the DHCP-HCP transformation
