Abstract Al-rich continental xenoliths are described for the first time in the Nevado-Filábride metabasites from the Betic Cordilleras. These inclusions consist of andalusite pseudomorphs and metapelite fragments remetamorphosed and partially melted after their incorporation by the magma. Four metamorphic events can be distinguished in the xenoliths, including the last Alpine overprint. These xenoliths provide an uncontrovertible evidence of the continental setting of the basic magmatism, enlightening the controversy about the tectonic significance of the Nevado-Filábride magmatism
