Abstract A high-K dacite dyke of Oligocene age from the Dumbuluk volcano, Eastern Rhodope (Bulgaria) contains a rare occurrence of primary barite. The phenocryst assemblage consists of plagioclase, clinopyroxene, biotite and microphenocrysts of titanomagnetite and accessory apatite and zircon. Petrological data suggest that barite crystallized at a temperature above 750┬░, water pressure about 4 kbar, and fO2 = 2 log units greater than the QFM buffer
