Abstract New data on the evolution of the Mn-Mg chlorite compositional gap toward Fe-rich compositions have been obtained from a nodule of metamorphic rock included in the Sierra Albarrana pegmatite body. Mn-rich chamosites were formed as a result of the decomposition of spessartine-rich almandine. The gap defined by Schreyer et al. (1986) for Mg-rich compositions persists in the Fe-rich region of the Mn-Mg-Fe compositional triangle and closes near the Fe-Mn side.
