Imaginal Aestivation in the Rove Beede Species Omalium rivulare (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae)
O.rivulare (Paykull 1789), reared under different temperature and photoperiod regimes, shows preimaginal development with > 0°C- 15°C under short-day conditions [SD]. Adults exhibit a reproductive diapause which can not be prevented by any of the tested regimes. Temperature has no influence on preoviposition period. Termination of diapause, however, is influenced both by photoperiod and by an intrinsic rate of diapause development under SD. It seems that both termination strategies may leed to a unimodal oviposition pattern, which usually characterizes species living in stable seasonal environments in which conditions are predictable.
