Abstract

Macrosiphum meixneri Börner 1950 is an European aphid species which is not well-known and has only been cited from 2 regions: (a) Styria (Austria), (b) Leon (Spain). So far, only the apterous viviparous female have been described. Material of this species from a French Alps locality and from various localities in the Cantabrian Mountain Range (Spain) has been studied. Winged viviparous female, fundatrix, oviparous female and male are described. The life cycle of the species is established: it is a monoecic holocycle. Its host plants are Euphorbia alpina, E. hyberna, perhaps E. villosa, and some other species of the Helioscopia group of this genus, which can develop in areas with very humid soil of mountain regions.
