New Sex Attractants for Species of the Zygaenid Subfamily Procridinae (Lepidoptera: Zygaenidae)

Both (R)- and (S)- enantiomers of 2-butyl (7Z)-dodecenoate and 2-butyl (9Z)-tetradecenoate, recently identified as sex pheromone components of Illiberis (Primilliberis) rotundata Jordan 1907, and their mixtures were screened in the field in Bulgaria, Ukraine (Crimea), and Hungary in 2004–2007. As a result, sex attractants for five species of the subfamily Procridinae were discovered. (2R)-Butyl (7Z)-dodecenoate alone or in combinations with other compounds, attracted numerous males of Jordanita (Tremewania) notata (Zeller 1847) in Bulgaria and Ukraine. Males of Adscita (Adscita) geryon (Hübner 1813), Adscita (Tarmannita) mannii (Lederer 1853) and Adscita (Adscita) albanica (Naufock 1926) were recorded in traps baited with lures containing (2S)-butyl (7Z)-dodecenoate. Males of Rhagades (Rhagades) pruni (Denis & Schiffermüller 1775) were caught mainly in traps baited with (2R)-butyl (7Z)-dodecenoate as well as in traps baited with the latter compound and its enantiomer.
