Abstract

On hatching from the egg, larvae of Callosobruchus chinensis (Linnaeus 1758) chew off particles of the testa of the inhabited seed with their mandibulae. These particles are not ingested but transferred to the rear of their bodies by sideways movement of the caput followed by sinuous movement of thorax and abdomen.
