The Victorian gold province is located in the Lachlan Fold Belt of southeastern Australia. Economic primary gold deposits and most uneconomic gold occurrences of the Victorian gold province are (1 ) structurally controlled, (2) related to quartz veining, (3) confined to rocks older than Carboniferous in age, and (4) dominated by gold as the economic commodity rather than silver or base metals (Phillips and Hughes 1996). Here we review the constraints which structural, isotopic and mineralogical studies have placed on the scale, flow-paths and relative timing of the fluidflow systems which deposited these gold deposits.
