The Geological Survey of Venezuela, Ministry of Energy and Mines, is updating the metallogenic map of the country as a part of the UNESCO Project "Metallogenic Map of the World". Important new large ore deposits, such as the extensive Km 88 zone in southern Bolivar States Au-Cu-Mo belt, the Upata Bauxite District in eastern Bolivar State, and the diamondiferous kimberlites of the Guaniamo area in western Bolivar State, are being detailed and included in the map. As a result of this work, new ore districts are being outlined in the Venezuelan Precambrian Shield. This new information, which was presented at the UNESCO International Meeting 'Geological Map of the Earth' in Buenos Aires, Argentina, July 1999, is very useful for exploration programs carried out in the Precambrian shield by the private sector and governmental mineral-resource organizations.
