Abstract

Seismically active fracture zones were delineated and correlated with hypogene mineral deposits in the central part of Andean South America. It appears that the large accumulations of metals are situated in the outcrops of these fracture zones. The timing of periods of mineralization generated by the process of subduction shows to be similar to the cyclic development of subduction in this region.
