Zur systematischen Stellung der Gattung Epophioceras SPATH (Ammonoidea)

Schlatter, Rudolf

Abstract

The systematic position of the genus Epophioceras SPATH (Ammonoidea), hitherto placed into the subfamily Asteroceratinae SPATH 1946, is revised. Based on morphological aspects, and the ontogeny of the suture line the genus Epophioceras SPATH is considered as a member of the subfamily Echioceratinae SCHINDEWOLF 1962. The first appearance of this subfamily falls into the lower obtusum Zone (Lotharingian). The examined material has been recorded in the Klettgau region (Kanton Schaffhausen, Switzerland).
