Haematological analyses were made on perch Perca fluviatilis, pikeperch Stizostedion lucioperca and ruffe Gymnocephalus cernuus inhabiting the River Danube near Novi Sad. Fish were caught by electrofishing and allowed to recover for 24 h before collecting blood by cardiac puncture. The numbers of erythrocytes, haematocrit, haemoglobin concentration, mean corpuscular volume, mean corpuscular haemoglobin and concentration, number of leucocytes and differential blood counts were determined. The haematological status of the three species differs significantly, and this is discussed in the light of their ecology and distribution.
