Assessing potential fish stocks in new nature developments in floodplains of large rivers in the Netherlands
Buijse, A. D.; Vriese, F. T.
In the Netherlands, ecological rehabilitation of the large rivers Rhine and Meuse has been described in general plans proposed for improving floodplain habitats andcreating "new nature". Several projects in the floodplains are currently being carried out, aimed at restoring transition zones between rivers and their floodplains. Positive benefits for fish stocks are presumed, although not yet investigated. Some general plans, restoration projects that have been realized or are under construction, and proposed research on fish stocks, are briefly described.
