Abstract

Chemical and physical parameters, chlorophyll-a and phytoplankton biomass, were investigated in the backwater Greifenstein, created by the construction of a hydroelectric power plant. Factor analysis showed that a 5-factor model ("conductivity", "limitation", "total phosphorus", "light", and "ratio of uptakeable nitrogen/uptakeable phosphorus") explained 90.7% of the variance in the data. Multivariate regression analyses were applied to estimate observed chlorphyll-a and phytoplankton biomass with the 5-factor model.
