We examined the relationships between the composition and structure of epilithic diatom assemblages, diatom indices, and environmental parameters using multivariate analysis. Diatom indices displayed weak correlation with all studied environmental parameters. Some of the studied species showed affiliation to changes in the concentration of N and P in water. The species can be classified into three groups: group A - indicators of clean water; group B - indifferent taxa; and group C - indicators of polluted water. For supporting the hydrobiological monitoring, it is sufficient to measure hydrochemical parameters once a year in the low water period (in midsummer).
