Abstract

The influence of f02 on phase relationships and melt compositions in a partially molten synthetic amphibolite (65 wt % natural hornblende, 32 wt % natural plagioclase (AnS7), 3 wt % natural biotite) was investigated at P = 10 kbar and T = 1000 °C in a piston-cylinder apparatus. C-H-O fluids in equilibrium with graphite were used as redox sensors. f02 was varied over an interval of 4 orders of magnitude (4 log units). Different redox conditions are due to different pressure transmitting materials and different starting compositions in the sensor capsule.
