Abstract

A mean conventional K-Ar whole-rock age of 49.6 ± 1.2 Ma is reported for six basalt flows and a dyke of the early Tertiary Blosseville Group of volcanics, East Greenland. The lavas are argued, on palaeontological grounds, to correspond to biozone NP10 and parts of NP9 and NP11. The new data are indistinguishable from whole-rock and mineral ages previously published (using K-Ar, Rb-Sr and fission track methods) for the post-basaltic intrusions of East Greenland, but conflict with the interpretation of the large spread of K-Ar whole-rock ages advanced by earlier workers studying related volcanics.
