Abstract (German)

Die stratigraphische Stellung des pliozänen Fossilfunde von Hadar (Äthiopien) ist noch strittig. Vorliegende Arbeit bringt neue Beiträge zu diesem Problem durch Verwendung des "Ähnlichkeits-Index" von RAUP & CRICK und zusätzlicher Berücksichtigung der Nagetier-Fauna von Shungura, Omo Member B, Hadar (Äthiopien) und Laetoli (Tanzania). Daraus ergeben sich in Ergänzung zu klassischen bio- und geochronologischen Methoden neue Gesichtspunkte für die Einschätzung der ostafrikanischen Hominiden-Fundplätze, besonders derjenigen von Hadar.

Abstract

The data provided by BROWN (1982) and BOAZ et al. (1982), as well as others, concerning the age of the Hadar site are reconsidered according to the RAUP & CRICK similarity index along with the rodent assemblages from the Shungura Omo Member B, Hadar and Laetoli. The results allow to explain with new arguments obtained from recent studies, why the traditional bio- and geochronological methods cannot be very effective in dating the East African hominid sites, notably Hadar.
