Abstract
Lithostratigraphic and micropaleontological investigations have been carried out on 115 samples from the Ghanima and Ain Amur sections in the Kharga area, Egypt. The study was based on the planktonic and larger foraminifers and calcareous nannoplankton. The Latest Maastrichtian and Early Danian faunas and floras were found to be miss. The Danian/Thnetian boundary is placed at the top of Morozovella uncinata zone, whereas the Paleocene/Eocene boundary is at the base of the Morozovella subbotinae zone. The first occurrence of Nummulites in the Kharga area is in the Early Eocene.
