Abstract
The continuous continental sections in the Eastern Ebro Basin (Northeastern Spain) have yielded in the recent years more than twenty new fossil localities with micromammals. The time-span of this set of localities covers all the Late Oligocene as well as the Oligocene/Miocene boundary, allowing the establishement of a biozonation of the mentioned sequence. The following range zones have been defined on the basis of the rodent content of the beds: Eomys zitteli Zone, Eomys major Zone, Eomys aff. major Zone, Rhodanomys transiens Zone, Rhodanomys schlosseri Zone and Ebromys autolensis Zone. The biostratigraphic implications of this biozonation as well as the pattern of the faunal changes during the Oligocene/Miocene transition in the SE Ebro Basin are envisaged.
