Abstract (German)
Zusammenfassung. Die Abhandlung berichtet über die Entdeckung der ersten terrestrischen und Süßwasser-Fauna spätmiozänen Alters aus Arabien. Die Säugetierfauna deutet auf ein spätmiozänes Alter von bisher unbenannten, aber für Mittelmiozän gehaltenen Ablagerungen des Küstengebietes der Vereinigten Arabischen Emirate hin. Für diese Sedimente wird der Name Baynunah Formation vorgeschlagen. Der Stratotyp befindet sich am Jabal Barakah (U.A.E.). Die Lithologie und Schichtenfolge der Formation werden beschrieben.
Abstract
The paper records the discovery of the first known Late Miocene terrestrial and freshwater fauna from Arabia. The mammalian fauna shows a Late Miocene date for sediments in the coastal region of the United Arab Emirates which were previously unnamed but had been assumed to be Middle Miocene. For these sediments the name Baynunah Formation is proposed, with the stratotype at Jabal Barakah, U.A.E. The lithology and succession of the sediments is described.
