Function morphology of Alveolitinae and its dependence on the Kellwasser and other events (Tabulata, M. to U. Devonian, Moravia, CSSR)

Hladil, Jindrich

Abstract

Changes of function morphology are utilized for eventostratigraphical evaluations. 23 species from die subfamily Alveolitinae (tabulate corals) are studied on die background of 12 Middle to Upper Devonian stratigraphic levels of carbonate buildups in Moravia. Porosity, spinality and skeletization parametres have been calculated with die following interpretations: Two events representing optimal reef conditions fall into the lowermost Givetian and die Upper Frasnian. The regressional event in die Upper Givetian is proved by this method, too. The impressive diminishing of variabilities is observed in the Upper Frasnian time-interval before the Kellwasser Event when Alveolitinae had extincted.
