Abstract (German)
Es werden zum ersten Mal Graptolithen aus dem Telychium (oberes Llandovery) der Lokalität Buttington Brick Pit in Wales berichtet. Nachgewiesen wurden fünf Graptolithen-führende Horizonte. Die untersten beiden gehören der turriculatus - Zone und der crispus- oder griestoniensis - Zone an. Zwischen beiden finden sich die ersten rot-grünen Bänke. Die obersten drei Horizonte lassen sich drei Subzonen aus Böhmen zuordnen: der parapriodon-, der anguinus- und der geinitzi - Subzone der spiralis-Zone. Die ist der erste britische Nachweis von Graptolithen-Zonen mit einem Alter jünger als die crenulata- und älter als die centrifugus-Zone (basales Wenlock). Lithostratigraphisch ist die Abfolge in drei Formationen gegliedert: die Cefn-Formation an der Basis, die Tarannon- oder Buttington Shales-Formation, aus der die Graptolithen stammen, und die Trewem Brook Mudstones-Formation am Top, deren Wenlock-Alter bereits bekannt ist. Die Basis jeder Formation ist ausdrücklich definiert, und ein neues Schichtglied, das Butterley Mudstone Member, ist aufgestellt, das den unterscheidbaren unteren Teil der Trewern Brook Mudstones-Formation umfaßt.
Abstract
Graptolites are recorded for the first time from the Telychian of Buttington Brick Pit, Wales. Five graptolitic horizons are present. The lowest two are turriculatus and crispus or griestoniensis biozone in age respectively. Between them are the earliest red/green beds in the sequence. The top three horizons may be assigned to the three Bohemian subzones, parapriodon, anguinus and geinitzi, of the spiralis biozone. This is the first British record of post-crenulata-pre-centrifugus biozone (basal Wenlock) graptolite faunas. Lithostratigraphically, the sequence is divided into 3 formations, the Cefn Formation at the base, the Tarannon Shales Formation from which the graptolites were collected, and, at the top, the Trewern Brook Mudstones Formation, known to be largely of Wenlock age. The bases of these formations are formally defined and a new member, the Butterley Mudstone Member, is erected to encompass the distinctive, lower part of the Trewern Brook Mudstones Formation.
