The editors of Newsletters on Stratigraphy have kindly sent me a copy of a manuscript submitted by Professor H. K. Erben entitled "Correction of a Reaction", which I understand they propose to publish. I deeply regret that I cannot accept as true most of the so-called "truths" enumerated by Professor Erben in this manuscript. However, I heartily agree with the editors' decision that further publication of this controversy should promptly be brought to an end. To me, it is not only personally repugnant, but also it seems obvious that further exchange would be futile and a waste of space and readers' time. I am glad to leave conclusions on the matter to the judgment of those who have read both the original discussion with Professor Erben in ISSC Circulars 28, 31, 32, 35, 37 and 43, and his two articles in the Newsletters. However, I am filing with the Editors of the Newsletters a detailed reply to Professor Erben's latest manuscript, copies of which reply I trust they will be willing to make available to any who may not understand why I cannot accept Professor Erben's so-called "truths".
