Abstract

A biostratigraphic reappraisal of the genera Buntonia and Protobuntonia in the sedimentary basins of Nigeria shows the occurrence of 20 species, majority of which have restricted vertical ranges and wide geographical distribution in West Africa. They are useful for the chronological subdivision and correlation of Cretaceous and Tertiary strata. In the West African sub-region the biochronology of the two genera is briefly discussed.
