Abstract
A palynoflora including 122 different species was found in the Lower Cenozoic sapropels of the Boltyshka depression, Ukraine. This association includes a majority of subtriporate pollen having a thick exine and, among Normapolles, many stratigraphical markers bearing witness of a Palaeocene age. These sediments contain three Uppermost Cretaceous species and several species characterizing the Lowermost Cenozoic, and can be assigned to the SP 1 palynozone (basal Upper Palaeocene), as defined by MEYER (1988) in the synthesis of the Palaeogene of Western Europe. Many of the identified taxa are also present in the Palaeocene of Germany and in that of the Carpathian region, and most of them are also present in the Belgo-Parisian basin and in the Thanetian II (Upper Palaeocene) of Menat, Puy-de-Dôme, France.
