The subaerial green algae belonging to the genus Cephaleuros Kunze ex E. M. Fries have been recorded in tropical and subtropical regions of Africa, America, Asia and Europe. However, information on distribution of individual species in equatorial tropical regions is extremely limited. The present study was aimed to record Cephaleuros species and their distribution in southern Thailand, which is located in a humid tropical region with favorable climatic conditions for subaerial algal growth. The research was conducted during 2013–2014 in eleven provinces of the region. Based on the results, five species of Cephaleuros, namely, Cephaleuros expansa, C. karstenii, C. pilosa, C. solutus, and C. virescens, were recorded. For C. expansa , C. karstenii and C. pilosa, this is the first time these species are documented in Thailand. Macroscopic and microscopic features of the taxa are described and the distribution of the genus in South-East Asia is discussed.
