Abstract

Sciuro-hypnum dentatum J. D. Orgaz is newly described for Japan. The species is characterized by the ovate-lanceolate leaves with serrulate leaf margins, costa subpercurrent ending in a spine and sporophytes with smooth seta. Light microscope photographs of the new species are provided. Its distinction from some closely related species is also discussed. A key for all the Japanese species of Sciuro-hypnum, the first for Japan and East Asian, is given.
