Abstract

A morphological and genetic comparison of three species of Apotreubia clarified the identity of A. hortoniae, A. nana and A. yunnanensis. The status of A. pusilla remains questionable. This paper critically revises the taxonomic value of morphological features in the genus. Some characters regarded previously as robust and supporting the species status of the taxa (e.g. sex distribution, ability to produce gemmae, etc.) are not stable within Apotreubia.
