Notes on the lichen genus Leptogium (Collemataceae, Ascomycota) in New Zealand

Twenty species of the lichen genus Leptogium (Ach.) Gray, are presently recognized in the lichen mycobiota of the New Zealand region viz., L. aucklandicum, L. australe, L. austroamericanum, L. biloculare, L. burgessii, L. coralloideum, L. crispatellum, L. cyanescens, L. cyanizum, L. denticulatum, L. laceroides, L. Iimbatum, L. malmei, L. menziesii, L. pecten, L. philorheuma, L. phyllocarpum, L. plicatile, L. propagulijerum and L. victorianum. A key to species, descriptions of all taxa, biogeographical affinities and distribution maps are presented. Leptogium patoni Stirt., is referred to Collema laeve. The name L. aucklandicum Zahlbr., is revived for New Zealand material formerly referred to L. azureum, which does not occur in New Zealand.
