Abstract

A total of 27 taxa of benthic marine algae, representing 19 taxa of Rhodophyta, 5 taxa of Ochrophyta (Phaeophyceae), and 3 taxa of Chlorophyta, are reported for the first time from the Sultanate of Oman. All of these collections were made from the Hallaniyat Islands (formerly the Kuria Muria Islands) of the southern coast of Oman. The following taxa had not been previously known to occur in the Indian Ocean: Ceramium paniculatum Okamura, Sphacelaria plumula Zanardini, and Caulerpa elongata Weber-van Bosse f. disticha W. R. Taylor.
