Coleochaete spalikii Szymanska sp. nov. (Charophyceae, Chlorophyta) - a new member of the Coleochaete sieminskiana group
Coleochaete spalikii Szymanska sp. nov. is described based on collections from four lakes in the Suwalki Lake District, north-eastern Poland. This species seems to be closely related to C. andreae and C. echinocystis (C. sieminskiana group), from which it differs in having smooth germling cell walls and distinctly smaller vegetative cells. These three species are characterised by singular antheridia, contrary to the remaining members of this group, C. sieminskiana and C. circularis, in which antheridia occur in groups of 2-4.
