Abstract

An identification key to the acrocarpous mosses (Bryophytina p. p., excl. Pottiaceae) from the Near and Middle East (Southwest Asia) is presented, including all hitherto reported records (altogether 503 taxa). It includes keys to the main groups of mosses (Sphagnopsida, Andreaeopsida, Bryopsida), to all families, genera and species, notes on the occurrence of the species in the different countries and annotations to doubtful and/or erroneously recorded as well as taxonomic problematical taxa. One new combination, Aphanorrhegma patens var. marginatum comb. nov. is included.
