Trinacrium tothii spec. nov. (Hyphomycetes) from the cortex of living tree
Magyar, Donat Révay
Trinacrium tothii sp. nov. is described on the basis of pure cultures derived from conidia isolated from detaching bark of Elaeagnus angustifolia collected in Hungary. Sporulation was sparse on dry culture media and moderate after underwater incubation with aeration. It became abundant on partially submerged colony. Its free conidia have been reported in some previous studies from rainwater. The fungus differs from all previously described species of Trinacrium in having only slightly tapering conidial arms with rounded ends. Both stauro- and phragmoseptate conidia were present, the latter were more frequent underwater than on the partially submerged or dry culture, as well as on natural substrata. Hungarian records on ecology of Trinacrium species are also discussed.
