Jungermanniaceae of the Sino-Himalayan region
Váňa, Jiří A.; Long, David G.
A new enumeration of the taxa of Jungermanniaceae (in its traditional sense excluding Lophoziaceae) is presented for the Sino-Himalayan region, which comprises Pakistan Himalaya, Indian Himalaya (Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttaranchal, Sikkim, Darjeeling district of West Bengal, Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh), Nepal, Bhutan and western China (Yunnan, Sichuan and Xizang (Tibet)). The genera included are those that have been placed in Jungermanniaceae in recent decades: Cryptocoleopsis Amakawa, Diplocolea Amakawa, Gottschelia Grolle, Hattoria R.M.Schust., Horikawaella S.Hatt. et Amakawa, Jungermannia L., Liochlaena Nees, Mylia Gray, Nardia Gray, Notoscyphus Mitt., Scaphophyllum H.Inoue and Solenostoma Mitt. Several of these have recently been transferred to other families. Recent molecular studies provide strong evidence for segregating Jungermannia s.l. into three smaller genera, Jungermannia s.str., Liochlaena and Solenostoma, and a key to these genera is presented. The checklist lists published reports for each species from the countries and regions of the study area. Fifty-four new combinations and one new name in Solenostoma are made for Sino-Himalayan taxa. Two new species, Nardia grollei Váňa et D.G.Long from East Nepal and India (Sikkim) and Solenostoma dulongensis Váňa et D.G.Long from China (Yunnan) are described, and some new synonyms are proposed. Male inflorescences are described for the first time in Jungermannia conchata, Scaphophyllum speciosum, Solenostoma chenianum, S. flavorevolutum, S. lanigerum and S. sanguinolenthum.
