Taxonomy of Coniochaeta leucoplaca and C. velutina: morphological and molecular studies based on LSU rDNA of isolates from Taiwan

The taxonomy of Coniochaeta leucoplaca and C. velutina was an uncertain subject in previous researches. We examined type materials and fresh Taiwanese collections, and found distinct morphological characters of the perithecia, ascospores, cultures, etc. Sequence analysis of the large subunit ribosomal DNA supports this disposition. Relationships between phylogeny and habitat association within Coniochaeta are discussed. Detailed descriptions and illustrations of C. leucoplaca and C. velutina are provided. These are new records for Taiwan.
